Toddlers were among the 12 people killed in a fiery car crash involving a pickup truck and a pickup van on Interstate 35 near the town of Fleamarketing, Texas, on Sunday, according to Texas Department of Public Safety officials.
The accident occurred around 2 p.m. in a northbound lane of I-35 at a high rate of speed, officials said.
Two adults were killed, and the driver of the pickup truck was pronounced dead at the scene, officials told WFAA.
Authorities identified the three victims as two males and a woman, ages 17 and 19, who were pronounced dead on the scene.
The fourth victim was transported to a hospital in critical condition.
A fourth adult male, who is believed to be the truck’s driver, was also pronounced dead, authorities said.
The driver of a pickup with two adult occupants was ejected from the vehicle, according the DPS.
The pickup driver was taken to the hospital in stable condition.
No other injuries were reported, according DPS officials.
A pickup van with a third adult occupant was also transported to the scene in stable conditions.
Investigators are investigating the circumstances surrounding the crash.
